Heading to Disney World this Summer? Don't Miss Out on Avatar Flight of Passage!

Updated: Oct 17, 2019

If you and your loved ones plan on visiting Disney World in Orlando, Florida this summer, you need to make sure you plan a day at Animal Kingdom's Avatar Flight of Passage! The best 3D ride I've ever experienced.

The Avatar Flight of Passage 3D ride is a tremendous experience that you should not miss out on when you plan your trip to Disney World this summer.

Located inside the Animal Kingdom, this 3D ride is still very new and will turn one on May 27th, 2018.

This exciting experience allows you to transform into an Avatar and then you get paired to ride on the back of a mountain banshee through the Valley of Mo'ara as seen from the blockbuster movie.

This virtual world is so realistic. You will feel all the take offs, steep drops, the wind and even water mist on your face as your banshee flies around this amazing world of Avatar.

New in 2018 is the ability to secure a reservation using Disney's FastPass+. This is a tremendous benefit because early last year when it first opened you had to stand in a very long line.

If you are staying at a Disney World Resort you can gain entry an HOUR BEFORE the park gates officially open, which they call "Extra Magic Hours" and get to stay an extra hour AFTER the park closes.

Last year, I didn't stay at a Disney World Resort and succumbed to arriving at the park before the gates opened, but still had to wait about an hour in a staging area in order to stand in a 2 hour line for Flight of Passage.

Updates for 2018

According to an article released by the Orlando Sentinel on 2/17/18, it sounds like the normal die-down for new Disney rides hasn't made much effect on wait times for Flight of Passage.

This is mostly due to the limited rides at Animal Kingdom and the mere fact that Flight of Passage is an unprecedented experience.

It turns out that the wait has now increased to even longer waits, some as long as 6+ hours!

This just places a much bigger importance on grabbing one of the coveted FastPass+ reservations for this virtual ride.

This means checking on a very regular basis, constantly refreshing your screen.

Now I know this doesn't sound feasible for more than a few hours but it's one way to try to snag one those passes to help eliminate your wait in line.

You might have to be creative like going during the Super Bowl where it was reported the wait was only 15 minutes so be creative.

If you decide to just go, be prepared for marathon long waits in the hot, muggy summers Florida naturally provides. Atleast, there are multiple fans along the line before you step inside.

Once, you're inside Pandora you'll be greeted with shade, air conditioning and various computer generated animations and other video game-like details which makes the wait a little more bearable.

For you foodies out there, don't forget to stop by Pongu Pongu, which is a cafe inside Animal Kingdom.

For a very sweet and tangy treat, order the Night Blossom, which is a mixture of limeade with apple and desert pear flavors topped with passion fruit boba balls!
